Choosing a Profitable Niche:
The process of choosing a niche can become overwhelming for beginners in online business, and I can’t blame them for being worried. The fear is that they will choose a topic with limited opportunity and never make any sales, resulting in a ton of lost time and effort. In my humble opinion, there are two “check boxes” that must be filled before pursuing a particular niche. The first requirement is that you’re passionate about the topic, and the second is that there is demand for products and services within the industry.
The most important aspect of a niche is that you’re passionate about it. You’ll be spending a lot of time researching current events, writing blog posts, and interacting with others within the space, so you’ll want it to be something you actually care about. If not, it’s common for burnout to occur. The major reason people pursue online business in the first place is for freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment, but if you choose to pursue something you hate then you most likely won’t be fulfilled. The other aspect is that there’s demand for products and services within the niche. You may be able to provide quality information to your audience, but without products or services to sell, there’s no business (unless you create the product/service yourself). Using keyword tools or typing terms into Google using the “Alphabet Soup” technique can help you gauge if your niche is something people are actually interested in searching.
